Life in Infinity

I wish I could live the life I am living

& Another couple too.

I wish I could do this, and that and everything

Everything, there was to do.

I would curate all the world of experiences,

And live a hundred lives.

I’d be a scientist with a world left to discover and invent.

I’d be a spy with a ninja life.

I’d be a teacher on a remote farm, spelling off my worth.

I’d write books, poems, papers and policies for my world.

I’d travel to every town, to enjoy what the locals do.

I’d be a runner, who runs for the finish line, to only start again.

I’d be working for Walt Disney & Channel,

I’d be an artist to get inspired by what many had not looked at again.

I’d be an astronaut with no gravity binding me to this world.

& be a excavator unraveling the mysteries of the past.

I’d be a in the amazon forests, the snow caps,

I’d be a photographer allowed to witness the tiger sleep.

I’d climb to the highest peak, to view this world in a manner only a few have.

I’d be the lady with the flower shop, with taste and wisdom.

I’d be the lady banker, with long legs that knows her walk too well.

and the chef with love for smiles and senses.

I’d be a leader, a person with a job an many more to provide.

I’d start my own company and watch it grow in size,

I’d wonder, just like I do now.

The world of endless possibilities now seem more defined,

Defined with choices and decisions, of which some were mine.

Verdict: I get to only live the life I do

At the opportunity cost of the many lives I wanted to.

Wall Street Effect

The tug-of war between the present-me and the future-me is being fought even before I knew me.

We all wake up to a new maze- one with present choices and future possibilities. We all want to find the best solution, we all want to find our way out from whichever maze we find ourselves trapped in.

It is said that an individual makes close to 35,000 choices a day. Certainly, we all want to make the better choice. Sometimes we are presented with choices- where ‘the better’ is hard to tag; but for most times, we know- what’s better.

Then what stops us from choosing it?

Why do we fail to weigh the present value and future value- and make the ‘sensible’ decisions? It isn’t necessarily because we are irrational idiots or because we lack a sense of vision. It is simply because our affinity for the present, discounts the future.

My bleak finance skills rarely get my balance sheet to balance and often leave out the tax section from the income statements, but I still take interest in my portfolio of choices. Often enough, I find myself in front of the garishly loud board of greens and red; it is intimidating-constantly changing-standing in that room of thoughts is just nerve wrecking. But choices need to be made as default settings are not good enough to out-perform the market.

Any sound financial advisor would agree- when I say the notion of perfect investments doesn’t exist. But there are plenty of famous strategies one may find on investopedia that one can deploy to maximize returns.

(1)    Everyone has a different risk profile and our choices are a mere reflection of our Beta value.

(2)    We know not to place all our eggs in one basket. We know we must hedge and diversify-

Then why place all our faith and peace on one bet?

(3)    Research is always the critical element. Knowing what you’re buying into can be a game changer.

(4)    Old is indeed Gold. Experience will help you make better choices- not because you understand the ‘market’ dynamics better but because you know thyself better.

Some investments turn out bad, some exceed our expectations, while some turn out just as we had calculated them to- but what makes one richer or poorer at the end of the day is not any one investment; so silence off all the advisors of your life and review your life portfolio as a whole.

The Ultimate Series

There are a gazillion people who have tried to disintegrate the meaning of life and I think I know why they failed.

There are way too many people, plants, animals & sea-weeds living life; and it takes something different to get each one ticking. Given that we all have different variables and factors that weigh differently in our equations; we can’t possibly round off ‘Life’ to a definite number.

The equation of life is dynamic. Predictably enough, I am going to pull out the ‘we are what we experience’ argument, but not in the same context as one may imagine. Yes, our past experiences have modeled us into who we are, what we like/dislike, what we desire, what we fear, what we believe in & what we expect from ourselves. However, it is not just experiencing an experience that changes the dynamics of our life, the order in which we experience them does.

Life is, hence, nothing but a permutation series- where order matters.

It’s not so much the Beautiful Mind Effect as much as the Butterfly Affect that plays in. With every cup of coffee, every hug, every smile, every argument we pose, every ‘like’ on Facebook we are adding new elements to our series.

Once we add something to our equation, there is no removing it. MJ famously said, “Everything we do or say goes down in history.” According to me, it seems too unnecessarily taxing to keep a tab on something this powerful and personal.

But here I was trying to care for the first time…over a box of golden fries. I sat there, holding up the act of eating, staring at the small paper tubs of tomato Ketchup, Mayonnaise and spicy mustard. Where do I dip my fries? Had I been on my phone, I would have just made a choice, sub-consciously. But now not only did I have the choice- but I was consciously aware of it.

“It’s always good to have choices”; but what if you don’t know how to choose? What if you are unaware of the factors you should consider while making that decision? I often tell people to make wise choices, but what if they are not wise enough?Making choices is not difficult, if you know what you want more.

Review your equation of life today…Not to go back and change things; but to witness your life permutate forever.
